Lady Cougars Fall to Bruins

Coming off of an exciting overtime victory over Grace Bible College, the Lady Cougars were looking to add another game to the win column against the Bruins of Bob Jones University. The Bruins came onto campus riding a lopsided win over Florida College.

From the tip, the Bruins ran out to a 0-9 advantage over the Cougars, but the Cougars responded of a 7-0 run of their own to cut the deficit to 2. The Cougars’ deficit would increase to as much as 11, but a 11-4 run to close the half would bring the Cougars within 4 at 25-29 at half time.

To start the second half, the Bruins would again stretch the lead, as the deficit for the Cougars grew to 15 with 11:10 remaining in the game. Yet, the Cougars still weren’t done. A 9-2 run would bring the game back within 8 for the Cougars, but that is as close as it would get as the Bruins scored 13 points off of free throws down the stretch. In the end, the Cougars fell to the Bruins 58-76.

The story of the game was rebounding as the Bruins secured 24 offensive rebounds to 4 for the Cougars. As a result, the Bruins scored 22 second-chance points, but the Cougars were unable to muster a single second-chance point.

For his comments, here is what Coach Wilson had to offer, “Bob Jones is a good team. They really made us pay for our failure to secure the defensive glass. It really is the story of the game. We have to do a better job on the glass.”

Tori Hale led the Cougars with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Hallie Linville added 16 points of her own. Hanna Glaze with 8, Ashleigh Diaz with 6, Kenya Joseph with 5, and Liz Jenkins with 2 rounded out the Cougars’ scoring.

For the Bruins, Kendra Jeffcott led all scorers with 29 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

The Cougars continue their home stand on Tuesday, January 14 as they welcome an NAIA opponent, Southeastern University, to campus.
