Golden Tigers Too Much for Cougars
GAINESVILLE, GA – The Lady Cougars traveled to Gainesville, GA to take on the Golden Tigers of Brenau University. The Golden Tigers got off to a quick start and a 4-0 lead, but the Lady Cougars came fighting back as Tori Hale scored the next five points to give the Lady Cougars a 5-4 lead. The lead would change hands 6 times until the score was tied for the fourth time at 16-16 with 10:14 to go in the first half. Two possessions later, the Golden Tigers took an 18-16 lead that they would not surrender. But the Lady Cougars were able to keep the game seemingly within reach as they trailed just 22-26 with 5:54 to go. However, from that point, the Golden Tigers would use a 15-5 run to close out the half with the Cougars trailing 27-41.
As the second half began, the possession would change hands a couple of times before Hallie Linville opened the scoring with a three to make it 30-41, but that is as close as it would get as the Golden Tigers’ depth took over the second half and cruised to a 55-89 victory over the Lady Cougars.
Coach Wilson had this to say of the game. “I was pleased with a lot of things that happened. I thought Tori (Hale) played her best game of the season so far. Liz (Jenkins) kinda got herself out of a little shooting slump. So, there are some positives to take from this game, but we have to do a better job of closing out halves.”
Tori Hale led the Lady Cougars with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Liz Jenkins and Hallie Linville added 10 points and 9 points respectively.
The Lady Cougars have to regroup quickly as they finish out 2013 with a game tomorrow against the Bears of Truett-McConnell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00.
