Cougars start 1-0 in the South Region


Clearwater Christian played their first South Region game of the year last night against Piedmont International University from Winston-Salem, NC. The Cougars got off to a great start with a 24-0 run to begin the game. The Bruins fought back and eventually cut the lead to 12 behind some long distance shooting, but the Cougars withstood the run and went into halftime with an 18 point advantage. The second half was almost a mirror image of the first with the Cougars posting 42 points in each period to take a 94-50 region win.
Clearwater had balanced scoring with 12 players contributing to the point total, led by Mike Key with 15 and Devin Paularinne with 11. The Cougars were dominate on the boards out rebounding their opponents 59-27 with Colin DeHate leading the way with 15, Gary Wintermeier collected 9 rebounds of his own. Erik McRae was tops in assists with 10. The Cougars will go on the road Saturday against NAIA opponent Southeastern University. Game time is 6p.
