Cougars Fall Short at Hillsbourgh Tournament
To what proved to be the toughest competition of their season, the Lady Cougars dropped four straight matches at the HCC tournament. The Clearwater team went up against two NJCAA I nationally ranked top 20 teams along with the #1 team in the USCAA. While playing several close sets, the Cougars could not pull out a match victory. According to Coach Denny, "we knew we had two days of tough opponents and our goal was to play them as best as we could. At times we did that and were in some very close sets. Unfortunately we could not come up with the win in any of the matches played. The experience of playing tougher competition should prepare us well for the final weeks of our season as we prepare for our regional and national tournaments.
A highlight of the weekend was senior Dana Medich's play. She led the Cougars on both the offensive and defensive side of the net. She averaged 3.7 kills per set and 3.4 digs. Dana also achieved a season milestone going over her 500th kill for the 2013 year.
The Cougars get back on the court on Tuesday against Hillsborough Community College who has been ranked in the top twenty NJCAA I polls all season long. This will be the last home match of the Cougars season. Match time is at 7:00 p.m.
