Clearwater Edges Trinity Baptist for Big Region Win

(9/28/13) CCC traveled to Jacksonville Saturday for an afternoon showdown with South Region rival Trinity Baptist. The Cougars and Eagles fought to a 3-3 draw earlier in Clearwater. This contest would prove to be another tight affair. Clearwater grabbed the lead with eight minutes to go in the first half after Brandon Shefcyk pressured a Trinity defender into an own goal. That would be the only breakthrough in the first half.
Trinity would score against the run of play eleven minutes into the second half to tie the game at 1-1. The Cougars would push for the game-winner the rest of the half, creating a few chances, but the midfield of the Eagles did a great job at breaking up the possession of CCC. For a second game in a row, Trinity-Clearwater would go to extra time. Clearwater dominated in the overtime, earning several corners in a row, but it would take all 110 minutes until a cross found John Woodhall in the box. Woodhall calmly chested the ball down with his first touch and hit a volley into the side netting to secure a major region victory for the Cougars, 2-1.
