Falcons Beat Clearwater in Crosstown Rivalry

(9/24/13) – The Florida College Falcons took advantage of two mistakes by Clearwater’s defense to win a heated crosstown rivalry match at home, 2-1. Florida College took a 1-0 lead into the half after intercepting a pass in front of the Cougar goal. CCC had a few chances to draw level but could not get a shot past the FC keeper. The second half was again evenly played, but the Falcons would pounce on another miscue by the Clearwater defense, finishing a one on one with keeper Garrett Hollenbach after latching onto a ball bouncing in the 18-yard box.
Clearwater would draw one back after a great ball from John Woodhall split apart the Falcons’ defense. James Sikes ran onto the end of it and calmly struck the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-1. A similar chance a few minutes later resulted in a great save by the FC keeper after Sikes struck a volley on target. Despite determined effort and getting into the attacking third regularly, the Cougars couldn’t grab the equalizer and fell by a final of 2-1.
