Cougars Come Out On Top In A Close Contest Against St. Pete College

The CCC team went up against a much taller and stronger Saint Petersburg team on Friday night and came out on top. All four sets were close and competitive between the two teams. With the Cougars winning the first two sets, both by only two points, both teams battled back and forth in set three defending off set point several times before St. Pete finally won, 31-29. During the fourth and final set, the Lady Cougars were able to establish a small lead for most of the game, eventually winning 25-21. According to Coach Denny, "this was a great match for us to pull out. With the games being so close and going either way, I really liked the way our team stepped up and put away the critical points when it counted. We showed a lot of growth and maturity tonight."
The Clearwater team was again led on the offensive side with Emily Mayer scoring 17 kills while Devan Dampier and Dana Medich both recorded 9 kills each. Medich also led all defensive players with 18 digs followed by Cassie Foster who recorded 16 digs.
The Cougars, now 22-6, get a few days off before hosting their Invitational Tournament next Friday and Saturday. Their first match on Friday will be against Ave Maria University at 4:00 p.m.
