Cougars Put Out the Fire at Home

The Lady Cougars showed a lot of character after being down 0-2 to come back and win a five set match against Southeastern University on Tuesday night. The Fire had beaten CCC earlier in the season at their home court 1-3 and at the start of this match it looked like a similar fate would occur again. However, after the Fire took sets one and two, the Clearwater team regrouped and began to serve tougher and pass better. During set three the Cougars began getting more opportunities to put the ball down and forced Southeastern into some errors late in the match. According to Coach Denny "this was a great comeback win against a very good SEU team. We were able to play some incredible defense throughout the match and finally our offense began to click. We were by far the smaller team tonight, but I was so pleased to see how our young team stayed tough to the end."

The Lady Cougars were led on the offensive side by both Dana Medich and Emily Mayer who both scored 21 kills each for the match. Libero Christen Johnson recorded 31 digs followed by Medich and Ponce with 22 and setter Cassie Foster with 21 digs. Foster also put up 58 assists for the match.

The Cougars are now 20-6 and will travel to Trinity College of Florida on Thursday to play a NCCAA regional match. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
