Clearwater Ties Trinity Baptist in Region Opener

(9/14/13) Clearwater and Trinity Baptist met for the first NCCAA II South Region matchup of the 2013 campaign on Saturday in Clearwater. Trinity brought in a much improved squad from the year before and showed it in the opening minutes of the match by taking the lead, 1-0. The Cougars failed to convert a penalty kick, and the Eagles from Jacksonville fed of the energy of the big stop from their goalkeeper. However, Clearwater was able to strike back with an overlapping run from Nate Shefcyk, who found Brad Cole for a flash header in front of the keeper to knot the game at one.
Trinity scored their second on a long ball played over the top after an offside call against CCC. The breakaway was converted to give the lead back to the Trinity. CCC would tie it again shortly after when Brad Cole headed a deep corner back across the face of goal where Dean-Paul Wallace was there to fire it into the top corner of the net. Trinity would regain the lead just before halftime to lead 3-2 at the break.
Clearwater would get the equalizer early in the second half. Brad Cole was again involved, pressuring a Trinity defender into a rushed clearance, leading to John Woodhall being able to play a great ball into space for James Sikes to run onto and drive a left-footed shot into the back of the net. The Cougars would continue to push for the go-ahead goal, creating several chances, but were unable to finish any of them. The game would end in a 3-3 tie.
