Warner Comes from Behind to Beat CCC

(9/13/13) The Cougars traveled to Lake Wales, FL to face another tough opponent in Warner University on Tuesday. Clearwater came out with great energy and showed the quality the team possesses. Chad Broussard connected well on a volley early on in the first half only to see it pushed off the post and wide by the Warner goalkeeper. Minutes later the Cougars got the breakthrough with a rebound finish from Junior midfielder James Sikes. Warner cranked up the pressure to close out the half, but CCC went into the break with a 1-0 lead behind the excellent goalkeeping of Garrett Hollenbach.
The score held for the majority of the second half until Warner was awarded a penalty kick, which was converted successfully. Shortly thereafter Warner scored the go-ahead goal off a missed clearance by the Cougars. As Clearwater pressed to find the equalizer in the dying minutes of the game, Warner was able to find space in the counterattack. The Lions added a third goal in the closing seconds of the game to push the final score to 3-1.
