Clearwater Loses Tough Game to Webber International
(9-10-13) After a long road trip, Clearwater was right back on the field against a strong NAIA opponent in Webber International University Tuesday evening. Last year, the Cougars upset the Warriors on the road, 1-0. Webber came into the game hitting on all cylinders and undefeated on the season. The Cougar defense gave up an early goal off a miscue in the back, and would make two more mistakes in the first half that led directly to goals. Webber took the 3-0 lead into the half. Clearwater was able to play well for long stretches and create some shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.
The Cougars held Webber scoreless in the second half, largely in part to Senior goalkeeper, Garrett Hollenbach, who made a spectacular one-handed save late in the game. Clearwater had bright moments going forward, testing the Warrior keeper a few times. The team will hope to get everyone healthy with two days off before another set of back-to-back games on the weekend. Clearwater will be away to Warner University on Friday and then host Trinity Baptist in the first region game of the year on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
