Warriors Overpower Cougars in Midweek Contest
Webber International University traveled to Jack Russell Stadium on Tuesday evening for a non-conference midweek match up. The Warriors pounded out twenty-one hits and twenty-one runs en route to a solid victory.
Webber jumped out to a quick 4-0 in the first inning, as short stop Tim Hoelzer hit an RBI triple, third baseman Tripp Merrell hit an RBI double, and designated hitter Austin Aubuchon hit a two run home run.
Cougars starting pitcher, sophomore Justin Capela, lasted just 1 1/3 innings, giving up eight earned runs and seven hits, taking the loss.
Clearwater had runners on base each inning offensively, but left eleven runners on base. Junior Jefte Velez went 2-4 with two singles, and reached base three times. Sophomore Justin Capela collected two hits, capping off a 2-3 day. Freshmen Jake Reidy and Taylor Hill both recorded hits, along with junior Joel Felten.
The Cougars struck out nine times at the plate, as Warriors starting pitcher Dylan Price collected six over five innings of work. Price picked up the win. Jonah Davis and Sean Stanislawski both recorded scoreless innings in relief.
Webber improves to 7-6 on the year after the 21-0 victory, as Clearwater drops to 0-11.
Clearwater will host Hiwassee College this weekend at Jack Russell Stadium for a three game series starting Friday night at 7pm and finishing Saturday with a doubleheader set for 1pm.
Notes: Hill recorded his first collegiate hit in his first plate appearance...this is the third straight win for the Warriors against CCC....Clearwater made four errors in the game...the last time Webber scored twenty-one runs in a game dates back to April 4, 2007...the Cougars scoreless streak has extended to thirty-three innings.
