Cougars Swept By Ave Maria

The Cougars were shut out for the third time over the weekend, falling 8-0 to Ave Maria. Ave Maria swept the weekend series, taking all three games.

Clearwater looked to pick up a victory to close out the weekend, but the Gyrenes had different plans, jumping out of the gate to score six runs in the first two innings off Cougars starter Stephen Martin. Martin started to settle in throwing scoreless innings in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. He took the loss, throwing a complete game, allowing three earned runs, striking out four, and walking two.

Junior Noel Thomas led the Cougars offensively collecting two hits. Junior Joel Felten, freshman Caleb Jordan, and junior Jon Rivera each added a hit.

Gyrenes starting pitcher Ethan Striz picked up the win, not allowing a run.

Clearwater now falls to 0-10 on the young season. They will play next at home on Tuesday, February 19 at 7pm against Webber International University. Webber won both games last year by scores of 5-4 and 17-2.

Notes: The Gyrenes collected thirteen extra base hits on the weekend and were issued eleven free passes...Thomas collected four hits for the series.
