Gyrenes Blank Cougars in Game Two

Clearwater managed just three hits in game one of the double header, as Ave Maria pulled out the victory 8-0.

Freshman Brandon Gonzalez took the mound for Clearwater keeping Ave Maria off balance for the first three innings. The Gyrenes popped up for seven of their first nine outs, including a strikeout.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Gyrenes loaded the bases with two outs. Designated hitter Aaron Pigna recorded an RBI on a single, followed by second baseman Kolbe Andrade who also collected an RBI single, making it 2-0. Gonzalez retired short stop Alex Sanchez on a fly out to center field to end the inning.

Gonzalez took the loss, falling to 0-3, throwing 4 2/3 innings, giving up only two earned runs, and striking out two.

Ave Maria put across three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. Andrade went 2-5 and collected three RBI's.

The final score was 8-0.

Notes: Freshmen Wade Irwin and Taylor Hill both made their second appearances out of the bullpen this weekend...sophomore Justin Capela reached base twice...Clearwater was retired in order four times...Clearwater is now 0-9 to start the season.
