Cougars fall to Gyrenes

After more than 1,000 miles of driving last weekend, the Lady Cougars looked to make a quick turnaround against the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University.

Early on, it looked like they would be able to do that as they were able to hang in the game for much of the first half. However, a late first half run would move the Gyrenes out front 41-27 going into the locker room.

In the second half, Ave Maria made it clear that they would not allow the game to be close as they quickly extended their lead. As the half wore on, it was apparent that the long drives of last weekend had finally caught up with the Lady Cougars. Weary bodies continually allowed Ave Maria to get any shot they desired. At the same time, those same weary bodies were unable to finish baskets on the offensive end. At the end of the game, the Gyrenes had shown why they are one of the most respected NAIA programs in the country as the final score showed the Lady Cougars falling 46-90.

Here is what Coach Wilson had to say in his comments, "I was proud of our team tonight. We are all tired. That trip up there is always tough. Now, we have to regroup and get ready for two big games this weekend."

The Lady Cougars will be travelling to Jacksonville, FL and Pensacola, FL to face Trinity Baptist College and Pensacola Christian College respectively. Their next and final home game will be Senior Night versus Florida College on February 12 at 7:00 PM. Make plans to come support our seniors, Tiffany Pack and Alyssa Zallie, as we thank them for their four years as members of the Clearwater Christian College Women's Basketball Program.
