Seahawks Take Night Cap and Sweep Series
The Cougars came into game three of the weekend series looking to pull out a victory. Seahawks starting pitcher Anthony Seblano put that thought to rest throwing a complete game no-hitter, striking out ten.
Clearwater had four baserunners all game, two reaching on errors and the other two reaching on walks. Junior Joel Felten reached base twice, both on errors from the Seahawks infield. The Cougars stranded runners at first and third in the top of the second, as Seblano struck out junior Noel Thomas to end the threat.
Freshman Stephen Martin took the mound in game three for Clearwater, and threw all six innings. Martin faced twenty-five hitters, giving up four hits and two free passes, along with three earned runs. He also struck out two.
The Seahawks put all three runs across in the bottom of the first, as Martin walked leadoff hitter Randolph Ham and beaned left fielder Stephen Fernandez to start the inning. Right fielder Hunter Davis then doubled, scoring Ham, followed by a sac fly from third baseman Christian Santo which scored Fernandez. First baseman Chris Fahey hit an RBI single scoring Davis, spreading the lead to 3-0, which was the final score.
The rest of the game remained scoreless as both Martin and Seblano both got into a groove, throwing complete games. Seblano picked up his first win of the season.
Northwood swept the series, improving to 3-0 to start the year, and Clearwater fell to 0-3.
Clearwater will travel to Eckerd College on Tuesday night at 7pm for their first mid-week game of the season. The Cougars won the season series last year 2-1 against the Tritons.
Notes: Northwood collected twenty-seven hits and scored twenty-one runs over the series...on the other side, Clearwater had fifteen hits and scored four times...Felten swiped his first bag of the year.
