Cougars Win Final Home Game of 2012

(12/15/12) The Clearwater Cougars played a home game Friday night that was originally scheduled to be on the road. This resulted in a rare home game when classes were out of session. The small crowd saw the Cougars struggle offensively in the first half only managing to put up 11 points in the first ten minutes of the game. The slow offensive start was capitalized on by DeVry University which led by as many as 18 in the first half and took a 31-43 halftime lead. The second half was all Cougars. Clearwater picked up the intensity on both ends of the court holding the Skyhawks to 2 points over the first 8 minutes of the second half. The second half saw the Cougars outscore DeVry 49-19 to give Clearwater a 80-62 win for their fifth of the season. The Cougars will travel to North Miami today to take on Johnson and Wales in their final game of 2012. They will resume play at home on January 12 against Trinity Baptist.

Clearwater had a balanced scoring attack with four in double figures. They were led by Devin Paularinnes career high 21 points, 19 of those coming in the second half. Close behind Devin was Brain Horrach with 19, followed by Colin DeHate with 12 and Jonah Dew with 10. Freshman Austin Swiernga led the way with 9 rebounds, with Horrach and DeHate contributing 8 and 7. Erik McRae had 9 assists on the night.
