Lady Cougars Fall to Johnson and Wales
(12/1/12) After the joy of playing well and capturing their first win of the season, the Lady Cougars suffered a blowout loss to Johnson & Wales in Miami on Saturday.
"Playing a region game on Friday and driving to Miami on Saturday would have been tough enough." Coach Wilson said. "But we had to move the game time around because of a scheduling conflict with academic responsibilities for our seniors. Then, we had to leave immediately after the seniors finished to have any chance of making it to the game on time, which ended up not really happening."
In spite of the circumstances, the Lady Cougars were able to hang around early - down just 22-12 with 10 minutes to go in the first half. But things would quickly change as Johnson & Wales outscored the Cougars 25-2 to close out the half with a 47-14 advantage.
The second half would not get better as Johnson & Wales continued their domination of the game, finishing with a resounding 100-37 victory.
Tori Hale and Tiffany Pack combined to lead the Cougars in scoring with 11 points each.
In spite of the loss, Coach Wilson is still proud of the way his team is improving.
"Sometimes, it can seem hard to find bright spots in these situations," he said, "but I believe that this experience will make us a better team in February. I am very proud of my team. What they accomplished on Friday night cannot be eliminated by what happened on Saturday night. They are 1-0 in the South Region and improving."
The Lady Cougars will close out the first semester with three road games next week beginning with a trip to Lakeland to play the Fire of Southeastern University on Tuesday followed by a visit to Hillsborough Community College on Thursday and a trip to West Palm Beach to face off against Northwood University on Saturday.
