Slow Start Too Much for Cougars
The Cougars hosted Piedmont International University on Thursday night in the first South Region game of the year. The first ten minutes of the game saw Clearwater only able to put up 11 points to Piedmont's 26. In the end that deficit would be enough to keep the Cougars out of the win column. Clearwater trailed by as much as 17 in the first half before going in with a 29-41 halftime score. The second half was a different story with the Cougars slowly chipping away, but Clearwater still faced a 50-62 deficit with 6:49 to play. The following two and a half minutes saw the Cougars go on a 13-2 run completed by a three pointer by Brian Horrach to bring the score to 63-64. That would be as close as the Cougars would get, with the final score 71-76.
Clearwater will take on Ave Maria on Saturday before taking a break for Thanksgiving.
The Cougars were led in scoring by Grant Touma's 26; 21 of his points came in the second half. Brian Horrach added 14, and Erik McRae had 9. Rebounding leaders were Devin Paularrine and Tristan Shore with 10 and 8 respectively. Erik McRae led with 7 assists.
