Cougars Lose in Overtime

The Cougars lost a hard fought game in their home opener for the 2012-13 season, as they took on Johnson and Wales University. The first half saw the Cougars struggle from the field shooting 37% and going 5 of 9 from the free throw line. At the break Clearwater faced a 33-39 deficit, and the second half started out worse before it became better. The Cougars were down by as much as 12 points part way through the second half. Clearwater's second unit came in and played some quality minutes while the starters received a much needed break. When the starters retook the floor they chipped away at the Wildcat lead, and finally took a 70-69 lead on an offensive rebound by Tristan Shore with 27 seconds left. Erik McRae put the Cougars up 3 with two free throws, and the Wildcats had one last possession. That possession ended with a desperation 3 going through at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Clearwater brought the score to 3 on a three point basket by Grant Touma with 14 seconds left, but the Cougars would not get closer than that, and the final score was 82-86.

The scoring was balanced again with Tristan Shore putting up 22, followed by Brian Horrach and Devin Paularrine's 15 points, and Erik McRae added 12. The bulk of the rebounding was done by Tristan Shore's 11 and Grant Touma's 8. The team assists were down from the season average, and Erik led the way with 4.

The Cougars play at home on Thursday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. against South Region opponent Piedmont International University.
