Lady Cougars Defeat North Central University in Opening Game at Nationals

The Lady Cougars opened up the first game of pool play at the National Tournament against the 5th seed and North Central Region Champs, North Central University.

The #1 seeded Cougars came out a little rusty in the opening half of the game after not playing a game in roughly a week and a half. North Central did a very good job holding Clearwaters offense in check, but the Cougars managed to get on the board about 15 minutes into the game when Tori Hale scored her first goal of the game.

The score would remain 1-0 at the half, but the Cougars would come out playing a lot better in the second half. Even with the better play, the North Central defense still made it hard on the Cougar offense to find the back of the net. After missing on several great opportunities, the Lady Cougars would finally break through making the game 2-0, when Tori Hale scored her second of the game off a corner kick played in from Whitney Redemann.

The Cougar defense held the North Central offense in check the rest of the game as the final score would remain 2-0.

The Lady Cougars will face Mid-West Region Champ Maranatha Baptist Bible College at 5:00 p.m. Thursday for the second game of pool play. With a win the Cougars could secure a place in the National Championship Game on Saturday.
