Cougars Drop Heartbreaker in Region Final

The top-seeded Cougars were upset Saturday night by Toccoa Falls 1-0 in the South Region Championship. Toccoa registered an early goal off a corner kick. The shot was initially going wide, but took two deflections and ended up in the back of the net. Clearwater dominated play, while Toccoa sat back and looked for the opportunity to counter. Despite coming close to scoring several times, CCC was down 1-0 at halftime.
Clearwater continued to control possession and push numbers forward in the second half, even playing with just two defenders at times. Toccoa sat back with two banks of four in front of the goal, even dropping one of their forwards at times. The Cougars pressed even into the final seconds, but could not break through to equalize, falling 1-0.
Clearwater had four first-team all-region players announced: Drew Custer (South Region MVP), James Sikes, Ben Holmes, and Anthony DeRosse. Two players were named to the second-team as well: Bryan Chidarikire and Garrett Hollenbach.
