Clearwater Defeats NAIA Foe Point University
(10/12/2012) Clearwater came out on top of an evenly-played match with Point University in front of the Cougar home crowd Friday night. The Cougars came out flying, scoring in the 3rd minute after a great combination down the right flank. The move was finished by Chad Broussard following a cross from Brad Cole. Despite conceding early, Point settled into the match well and kept the score 1-0 for the first half.
The Skyhawks pulled even in the second half on a controversial goal. Clearwater goalkeeper Garrett Hollenbach came out to claim a ball in the air, but was undercut by a Point forward. The referee allowed play to continue, and the Skyhawks put the loose ball into an empty net. Clearwater gave a great response to the adversity and was rewarded with a goal by Brian Chidarikire ten minutes later. Brad Cole made a driving run into the top of the box, then played the Senior midfielder in on the Point keeper. Chidarikire calmly placed the ball by the keeper to give the Cougars what proved to be the game-winning goal. The final score remained Clearwater 2, Point University 1.
The Cougars finish up region regular season play at home tomorrow against Trinity Baptist.
