Cougars Loss in a Tough Five Set Contest

The Lady Cougars knew they would have their work cut out for them as they faced off against Point Park University (NAIA). The Pioneers, currently 18-4, have won the CCC Invitational the past five out of six years and this contest proved to be the deciding match for this year's tournament championship winner. While Clearwater got off to a slow start during set one, they fought back to a 19-25 loss before taking set two, 25-22. The two teams battled back and forth with CCC showing great effort on defense to contain the explosive attack of several of the Point Park players. Point took set three, 25-20 but the Lady Cougars would not give up, taking the next set 25-21 forcing a fifth game. While the match was hard fought, the Clearwater team came up short losing the last set and the match.

According to Coach Denny, "this was a great match for our team and although we did not come out with the win, I am so pleased with how the players responded and kept working hard, especially on defense. We played a very tough opponent this morning and I couldn't be prouder of the team's effort. These are the type of matches that will prepare us for the end of our season.

Five players recorded double digit digs: Dana Medich with 16; Kim Ponce with 15; Amanda Ison with 14 digs; and Sarah Wild and Richelle Bucklin both with 13 digs. Amanda Bucklin led all hitters with 16 kills, while Richelle Bucklin added another 14 kills to the offensive attack.
