Cougars Win Big Over Michigan Team


In what became a great home match for the evening, the Lady Cougars stunned UM-Dearborne in three straight sets. The Cougars came out strong in set one suprising the Wolverines with tenacious defense and solid offense to take set one 25-15. During set two the Michigan team regrouped and had a 17-10 lead before the Cougars rebounded back with solid serving by Wild and Ponce and great defensive effort by Medich and Ison to eventually take the set 25-22. While UM kept the score close during set three, the Lady Cougars played outstanding defense shutting down the huge front line of Michigan and frustrating the big hitters. In the end, the Cougars captured their first win ever over the UM-Dearborne team.

Richelle Bucklin led all hitters with 21 kills in the three sets with a 30% hitting efficiency and scored a double/double with 13 digs. Amanda Bucklin also added a double/double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Dana Medich again led the defense with 14 digs while setter Sarah Wild averaged 11.7 assists per set.

The Cougars now 22-3 will face another tough NAIA opponent in Point Park University tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
