Lady Cougars Rout Florida College 5-0
The Lady Cougars dream season continued on Monday afternoon when they took on the Florida College Falcons for the second time in a week. After defeating the Falcons 2-1 last week, the team knew it would be a tough physical match.
Rebecca Farrell scored what would be the game winner in the 20th minute of the first half. From there, the Cougars never looked back in route to a 5-0 victory. The 2012 team has recorded 11 wins, most in program history, and is currently ranked #1 in the NSCAA coaches poll. Head coach, Mark Bates attributes their success to playing as a team, “We have a tremendous group of young women on this team. Their hard work and team first attitude has allowed us to be very successful this season.”
After assisting on the games opening goal, Kelsey Redemann doubled the score before halftime with an assist coming from her sister Whitney Redemann. Despite getting off to a difficult start, the Lady Cougars found themselves up at the half. According to Coach Bates, “We got off to a rough start in the first 10 or 15 minutes. We weren’t able to put many passes together or possess the ball very well, but as the game settled in we found our rhythm and started to play some good soccer.”
Kelsey Redemann scored two more goals in the second half, with both assists coming from freshman midfielder, Delaney Lester. Amani Morcos finished off the scoring when she put home a rebound that came off of the Falcons goalkeeper. The defense was strong again in earning the shutout victory. Kim Vilchez and Brooke Buffaloe both played well in goal to keep Florida College off of the scoreboard.
The Lady Cougars will have two days of practice on Tuesday and Wednesday before traveling to Toccoa Falls College for an important matchup on Friday against the Eagles. With a win over Toccoa Falls College, the Lady Cougars will secure the #1 seed in the South Region tournament.
