Clearwater Improves to 2-0 in South Region

The Cougars traveled north to Jacksonville on Tuesday to take on South Region newcomer, Trinity Baptist. CCC took control of the game early, and found the back of the net in the 14th minute when Senior Drew Custer put home a rebound. Ten minutes later Chad Broussard took advantage of the small field and drove a corner kick across the face of goal that was redirected into the goal by a Trinity defender. Trinity was given a golden opportunity to get on the scoreboard after being awarded a penalty kick late the first half. However, CCC goalkeeper Anthony DeRosse was able to come up with another big save to preserve the two-goal lead. The Eagles eventually pulled a goal back just before halftime following a turnover from the Cougar defense.

The score remained 2-1 for most of the second half as Clearwater struggled to put away chances. Custer tallied his second goal of the game after getting on the end of a ball played through the heart of the Trinity defense. Freshman Lewis Tuininga got his name on the scoresheet after poaching a goal off a rebound from the Eaglesí keeper. The scoring was capped off by Anthony DeRosse who provided a spark coming on as a field player in the second half. Garrett Hollenbach came up big in goal in the second forty-five minutes, including a fantastic save on a Trinity free-kick.

With the win, Clearwater remains atop the South Region. The Cougars are back at home this Saturday with a 3 p.m. kick-off against College of the Bahamas.
