Cougars Lose in Five Set Match

Clearwater played one of their best matches of the season but still came up short in a tough five set loss against a very solid team from Kansas City, Kansas. During the two hour match the momentum shifted between the two teams several times as the score lead changed back and forth. The offensive power of Kansas City was challenged by a strong defensive effort of the Lady Cougars in the exciting five set match.

For the Cougars setter Sarah Wild led the team in digs with 24. Amanda Ison chipped in another 21 digs and 21 serves with 2 aces. Three different players finished with a double/double. Richelle Bucklin scored 22 kills and 19 digs, Amanda Bucklin had 16 kills and 16 digs, while Dana Medich scored another double/double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs.

Coach Denny was thrilled with her team’s performance. “This is one of those matches which is exciting to watch and play. There were several long rallies with both teams pushing the other team to perform better. I was so pleased to see how my team responded against a very tall and athletic opponent. We were definitely challenged and although we didn’t come up with the win, this was a great match for us and will prepare us as we get into the tougher part of our schedule.”

The Cougars, now 13-3, will be playing two NCCAA regional matches this week. On Tuesday the team will travel to Florida Christian before playing on Thursday at home against Trinity College of Florida. Game time for both matches will be 7:00 p.m.
