Lady Cougars Win Again

The Clearwater Christian College women's soccer team played host to Judson College on Friday night at Glen Oaks Park. The team knew this would be a tough physical game after tying the Eagles twice last season and the game action did not disappoint.

Neither team was able to score in the opening 45 minutes. The game went back and forth for the first 30 minutes but good defense was being played by both teams. Late in the first half, the Lady Cougars took control of the game. Although they were unable to score, Clearwater kept the pressure on the Judson goal and even hit the crossbar.

The Lady Cougars picked up in the second half right where they left off in the first. Freshman, Kelsey Redemann scored the first goal of the game in the 55th minute and the Cougars would not look back. Junior, Whitney Redemann added her own goal in the 80th minute off of a beautiful set piece to seal the victory for the Lady Cougars.

The Clearwater defense earned their 5th shutout of the 2012 season, and goalkeeper Kim Vilchez made 6 saves to earn the victory.

Coach Bates had this to say about the win, "We knew this would be a tough physical game but the team was up to the task. Judson is a good team and they did some things defensively to make it difficult for our forwards. I'm proud of the way the girls fought hard for 90 minutes, and we want to thank all the fans for a great turnout this evening."

The Lady Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Tampa and take on the Florida College Falcons at 5:00 p.m.
