Cougars Generate Exciting Comeback

It is always a competitive challenge to play the Lady Falcons of Florida College, especially in front of their own home crowd, and Tuesday night was another classic volleyball match between these two programs. Clearwater faced a loud and boisterous crowd and during the first set, the Falcons totally dominated the Cougars easily winning 25-7. The Cougars regrouped and with a different lineup came back to win the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-23. During set four with several lead changes, CCC fell behind after keeping a two point lead for most of the game, and eventually lost, 25-19 setting up a fifth and deciding game for the match win. CCC came up with a winning combination eventually winning the final set 15-12.

Coach Denny was thrilled to watch her team handle the adversity and challenge of this tough match on the road. “We had several obstacles to overcome to get this win tonight and it was a great team effort.” Kim Ponce stepped in as setter and delivered assists to Amanda Bucklin who secured 17 kills and 3 blocks while Richelle Bucklin had 15 kills and 5.5 blocks. Dana Medich led the back row defense with 16 digs. Serving was another key area throughout the match, and Amanda Ison delivered some pressure packed key serves at the end of set 5 to help secure the final victory.

With the victory the Lady Cougars go to 11-1 for the season. Their next matches will be at the Pasco Hernando tournament starting on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against the home team.
