Lady Cougars Defeat Brewton Parker in Home Opener

After playing their first four games of the 2012 season on the road, the Lady Cougars played their first home game of the season on Saturday. A goal in each half from Tori Hale was all Clearwater would need to earn a 2-1 victory over NAIA opponent Brewton Parker College.

Defender, Cybille Lassegue, assisted on Tori Hale's first goal of the game in the 15th minute of the game. The Lady Cougars had most of the possession in the first half but an organized Brewton Parker defense kept the score at 1-0 going into the half.

Tori Hale did not wait long into the second half to score her second goal of the game. Her second goal of the game came less than a minute after halftime with the assist coming from freshman midfielder Jamie Ray. Brewton Parker found the back of the net in the second half as well to make the game a 2-1 final score. Clearwater goalkeeper, Kim Vilchez, made four saves to earn the win.

Coach Bates was pleased with the victory and had this to say about the game, "Brewton Parker is a quality team, and they are very organized which made things difficult for us at times today. It's always good to get a win in front of the home crowd, but we need to be better, and I know that the girls are committed to working hard to improve over the course of the season."

The Lady Cougars are now 5-0 to start the 2012 season and will put their undefeated record on the line when they travel to Florida Christian College on Tuesday, September 11.
