Clearwater Falls to Ave Maria

The Cougars travelled to NAIA opponent Ave Maria for their first road game of the 2012 campaign. The match began with a frenetic pace as the Gyrenes tried to take advantage of the small field and pressure the Clearwater back line. The opening goal came from an own goal as the Ave Maria goalkeeper mishandled a backpass from his outside defender. Three minutes later Mario Black scored the equalizer. The first half finished tied 1-1.

Clearwater came out strong in the second half only to see Ave Maria score against the run of play. Andres Guerra found the back of the net with a volley four minutes into the half. Despite sending all but three players forward in the closing minutes, the Cougars could not find the tying goal and the game finished 2-1 to Ave Maria. Clearwater is in action again Saturday night, August 8, 2012 against Brewton Parker.
