Cougars Lose at Pasco

Clearwater lost Saturday afternoon's game at Pasco-Hernando 9-2. Sophomore Chaz Russo led the Cougars offensively, going 3-4 on the day. Junior Kyle Leja took the loss for Clearwater, throwing five innings, and allowing five earned runs.

The gates opened for Pasco-Hernando after first baseman Chris Hanson hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 6-0.

The Cougars stopped their scoring drought in the eighth inning on Saturday, scoring a pair of runs, as freshman catcher Nate Krouse had an RBI, along with sophomore Joel Felten, who hit a sac fly to right field. Felten ended the day with a pair of singles and an RBI.

The bullpen pieced together the rest of the game, as sophomores Luke Brigham and Kyle Baitz combined for three innings and did not allow an earned run.

Justin Gates picked up the win for PHCC, throwing six innings, striking out six, and not allowing a run.

The Cougars finish the regular season 9-30, and will face Florida Christian College next Thursday afternoon in the regional tournament at 3 p.m. in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. FCC won the regular season series 3-2. Depending on how the Cougars do in game one, will determine whether they will play at noon or 3 p.m on Friday.
