Suns Win Season Series, Take Game Three of the Weekend

With the season series tied at 2-2, Florida Christian did just enough to take game five. The Suns scored five runs in their last two at bats, giving themselves a comfortable lead, winning 6-2.

FCC got on the board early, after shortstop Mark Vidal hit a triple in the first, and scored on a balk.

Sophomore Chaz Russo hit an RBI triple, scoring a run, as freshman Nate Krouse led off the inning with a double. Russo scored later on freshman Henry Turner's RBI single, giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. That would be it for the Cougars offensively, as the Suns battled back, scoring two in the fifth, and three in the sixth.

Senior Brent Kirkley started the game for the Cougars, going three innings, and allowing one run, pitching efficiently.

Sophomore Kyle Baitz took the loss, throwing two innings, and allowing one earned run.

Senior Ethan Barba went 2-3 in game two, leading the Cougars in the hits column. Krouse, Russo, and Turner each collected a hit. Nine Cougar strikeouts did not help, which included Suns starting pitcher Hansel Lazo striking out the side in both the first and third innings.

Clearwater is now heading into their final week of regular season baseball 9-27 overall, with four games to go. The Cougars will play at Southeastern University on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The Fire won an extra inning battle back on March 27 the first time these teams met this season.
