CCC Evens Series in Game 2

The Cougars broke out with ten hits and five runs in the first game of the double header on Saturday afternoon. The five runs were plenty for starting pitcher Kyle Leja, who picked up the win.

Clearwater scored first, as freshman Nate Krouse hit an RBI double scoring junior Chris Caudillo, who singled to start the inning. Freshman Manny Chmielewski then drove in a run, scoring sophomore Jon Rivera, who was being used as a courtesy runner, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

CCC picked up another in the second as freshman Henry Turner scored on a wild pitch, after he reached base to start the inning on an Eagles error.

Toccoa picked up their only run of the game in the third inning, after scoring on a pitch that went to the backstop, scoring Josh Ward who was on third, and had led off the inning with a walk.

Leja pitched strong, going six innings, striking out seven, and allowing four hits.

The Cougars picked up two more key insurance runs in the fourth, after sophomore Eddie Fuentes hit a double to lead off the inning. Turner drove in Fuentes, on a double of his own. Sophomore Jefte Velez then moved Turner to third on a ground ball to the right side, which allowed Turner to score on a passed ball during senior Ethan Barba's at bat.

Sophomore Luke Brigham closed out the game for the Cougars in his first appearance of the season, after joining the team earlier in the week due to basketball season. He pitched one inning, gave up one hit, and allowed no runs.

Caudillo, Krouse, Fuentes, and Barba each had two hits in the game.
