The women’s tournament was played at Ohio Christian University in Circleville, OH. The Lady Cougars entered as #5 seed and quickly advanced with a 67-63 win over #4 seed Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College in Thursday’s opener. In round two, they faced #1 seed and eventual tournament champion Kentucky Christian College and lost 72-54 in a hard-fought contest. In the third and final game, the Cougars lost to #3 seed Ohio Christian by a score of 72-62, earning overall fourth place in the national tournament. Women’s coach Melanee Halstead said, “This tournament was an awesome experience for us and I am so proud of the team. They are a unique group of girls with a very special bond. God has blessed us with quality athletes. They played well and showed that our program is one to be respected. The support of our fans was awesome. We also participated in a great community service activity at an Ohio Food Bank where they built relationships with other teams. They had a great testimony for Christ, our school, and their families.”

Across the country at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO, the men’s tournament was being played. The Cougars entered as #8 seed and advanced with a 100-73 victory over #9 West Coast Baptist College from Lancaster, CA. In round two, they faced #1 seed Valley Forge Christian College in Valley Forge, PA and lost by a score 49-48. In the final two games of the tournament, they faced #4 seed Florida Christian College where they won 94-78 and then lost 87-61 to #7 Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College to secure sixth place. Number 2 seed Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, MI, defeated #1 seed Valley Forge Christian to take their fourth consecutive national title. Keith Champion, coach of the men’s basketball team and athletic director, said, “The Cougars made it to the National Tournament for the first time since 2005 and raised eyebrows right away with an outstanding 100-73 win against West Coast Baptist. We continued our solid play with a what was called ‘the game of the tournament’ as we lost to #1 seed Valley Forge, 49-48, when a last second tip wouldn’t fall that would have given us a 1 point win. Our third game against Florida Christian was another outstanding performance by the Cougars as they led from the onset and defeated FCC 94-78. On Saturday, we played a solid #7 seed, Hillsdale team from Oklahoma City and were defeated in our tournament finale. All in all, it was an outstanding week for Clearwater Christian College. Our team represented our college well as it played against the best teams in the NCCAA.”
Several CCC players received recognition on the national level as indicated below. Congratulations to our men’s and women’s teams.
