Yellow Jackets Sting Cougars

Cedarville University made their way to Clearwater to open up their 2012 season. They took care of business in game one of the double header winning 6-0.

CU starting pitcher David Ledbetter tossed a complete game, striking out three, and not allowing a run.

The Cougars had a chance in the bottom of the first inning to get on the board first. With sophomore David Edwards at third, and sophomore Jefte Velez at second and one out, Ledbetter worked out of the jam.

The Yellow Jackets took advantage of the momentum coming up with three base hits in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead.

They put another run across in the fourth, two in the fifth, followed by a solo home run by shortstop Alex Beelen, extending the lead to 6-0.

The Cougars collected four hits off the bats of Velez, senior Zack Weber, sophomore Joel Felten, and senior Ethan Barba.

Freshman Manny Chmielewski took the loss for the Cougars, hurling 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, and striking out two.
