The Cougars Outlast Toccoa 73-58

CCC advances to the South Region finals after defeating Toccoa Falls 73-58. After jumping ahead 9-0 early in the game, the Cougars offense struggled throughout the rest of the first half.

Leading 29-28 at the half, the Cougars spent the half-time break trying to figure out how to stop the TFC point guard, Josh Barrett. Barrett scored 21 of his teams 28 points in the first half in a great individual performance. The game stayed close in the 2nd half, and it seemed Toccoa gained itself a little breathing room by giving themselves a 5 point lead with about 11 minutes remaining. Behind Luke Brigham, the Cougars made a charge that put CCC up 60-54 with 6 minutes to go in the game. Clutch free throw shooting and a disciplined offense down the stretch, allowed Clearwater to extend the lead to a victory margin of 15.

The Cougars out-rebounded the Eagles 46-28 and shot 14-16 from the line.

Todd Wahlberg led CCC with 21 points. He was followed in scoring by fellow senior co-captain Bryan Spears with 18. Josh Barrett had a game high 30 points for Toccoa.

The South Region Championship game will pit Florida Christian against the Cougars in a 2:00 p.m. match-up on Saturday. Both teams finished the regular season with a 7-1 record. The winner of this game will move on to the NCCAA National Championship tournament in Springfield, Missouri.
