Kirkley's Dominating Effort Not Enough

Senior Brent Kirkley dominated the Bears lineup for five innings, striking out nine, and giving up just one earned run. His performance wasn't enough as the Cougars lost 12-1 in the final game of the weekend series.

The lone earned run given up by Kirkley was a solo home run by Bears first baseman Ross Roberts over the right field wall.

The Bears found a way to put across six unearned runs in the third inning, spreading the lead to 7-0. They added five more runs in the sixth inning.

Clearwater pushed a run across in the sixth inning, after Henry Turner reached base on an error by the first baseman, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Joel Felten.

Felten, Chris Caudillo, and Ethan Barba each had multi hit performances for the doubleheader.

The Cougars are traveling to play Webber International University on Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. start in Babson Park, FL. These two teams split last years season series 1-1.
