Cougars Drop Night Cap

The Cougars looked to bounce back after a game one loss of the midweek double header, hoping to even the season series. The Barons offense stayed hot, leading to a 7-1 victory.

Following suit from game one, the Barons scored first after a bunt single, a Cougar error, and a sacrifice fly, taking an early 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Barons added three more runs on two hits, an error, and three free passes, coming up with the big hit to break open the score 4-0. Brewton Parker added another one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to left field, extending their lead to 5-0.

The Barons added two more in the sixth on three hits, including two doubles.

The Cougars got something going in their last bats again, reaching base after the Barons third baseman made two errors in the inning, allowing Freshman Manny Chmielewski and Senior Ethan Barba to reach base. Chmielewski scored on the second error, which was a throwing error that got by the first baseman, giving him time to score. Sophomore David Edwards extended the inning with a single, but Baron pitcher Ryan Raymer shut the door, recording his third strikeout to end the game.

Cougars starting pitcher Josh Williams took the loss, facing twenty-four batters, allowing five hits, of which three were bunt singles.

Edwards had two of the Cougars four hits, going 2-4 in the night cap, with a stolen base.

Brewton Parker pitcher Ben Gillespie got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing no runs, and striking out three.

The Cougars (1-5) will host Truett McConnell College (2-1) this weekend for a three game series, starting Friday night at Frank Tack Park at 6 p.m. The series will finish up with a double header on Saturday starting at 12 p.m., at Jack Russell Stadium.
