Barons Take Game One of DH
Brewton Parker College traveled to Jack Russell Stadium on Tuesday night for a midweek double header against the Cougars. Timely hits led to a 10-2 Baron victory.
The Barons scored in each of the first five innings getting the big hit when they had the opportunity.
Baron's leadoff hitter David Jones reached base to start the game on a Cougars error, stole second, and scored on a single by Eddie Peyton, taking a 1-0 lead.
In Brewton Parker's second inning, they broke out for four more runs on three free passes and two singles. They added one more in the third inning on a solo home run by first baseman, Tony Voiro.
In the top half of the fourth, they added another run after a leadoff walk, a single, and then a sacrifice fly plated the run.
The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, after sophomore Jefte Velez singled in senior Zack Weber. Weber reached base on a single earlier in the inning. The Cougars stranded Velez and Joel Felten, who also singled in the inning. After four, the Cougars trailed 7-1.
The Barons scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, on five singles.
Freshman David Dumas made his collegiate debut on the mound coming in out of the pen, shutting down the Baron offense, allowing no hits and striking out three, in two innings pitched.
The Cougars added one more in their last bats, after two walks and a passed ball scored catcher Eddie Fuentes.
Cougars starting pitcher Noel Thomas took the loss, pitching into the fourth inning, giving up just four hits, but allowed six earned runs.
No Cougars had a multi-hit game, with five players each recording a hit.
The Barons starter Ryne Drummonds picked up the win, pitching six innings, giving up five hits, one walk, and just one run.
