Seahawks Take Game Three

After two intense games to start the series, the Northwood University Seahawks’ bats came alive in the second inning as they plated 13 runs on 16 hits, effectively silencing the Cougars. Prior to this scoring streak, the game had remained scoreless.

The Cougars got on the board in the third inning, as third baseman Jon Rivera led off with a double. Senior Ethan Barba bunted him to third, while center fielder David Edwards doubled, scoring Rivera. The score after three innings was 3-1, with the Cougars trailing. In the fifth inning, the Seahawks put two more across the plate on three hits, extending their lead to four. The sixth inning continued their streak as they put across eight runs and three walks on seven hits.

Northwood starting pitcher Jordan Rawlyk earned the win, giving up just one earned run on three hits.

Senior Brent Kirkley started the game for the Cougars and took the loss, throwing five innings, striking out five, and giving up four earned runs. He kept the Cougars in the game, but the Cougar offense never got going. Rivera, Edwards, and Nate Krouse got a base hit each. The Seahawks won the series 2-1.

The Cougars (1-3) will battle Brewton Parker College (3-3) on Tuesday night for a midweek doubleheader. The games will be played at Jack Russell Stadium with the first game starting at 5 p.m.
