Cougars Win in Over Time

The Cougars took the game into an exciting over time to earn their first win of the season. Both Clearwater and Lawrence University were without any wins going into the game.

The game opened up with the team exchanging baskets, and it continued that way until the Cougars failed to score in the final 3 minutes of the first half, allowing Lawrence to head into half-time with a 27-22 lead over the Cougars.

The Cougars came back strong in the second half, taking a 7-0 run to jump to a lead within the first 2 minutes of the second half. But Lawrence kept chipping away to take the lead back and build it to 10 points with 10 minutes left in the half. The Cougars were not willing to give the game up yet and they stepped up their defense as they continued to find the basket. The Cougars finally took a 2 point lead with 25 seconds left in the game… only to have the Vikings tie it with 8.9 seconds left, sending the game into overtime.

During overtime, the intensity rose as both teams fought for the win. Clearwater had four players on the charity line as they held out for a 66-64 victory over Lawrence University.

Katie Jo Mullens led the Cougars in scoring with 23 points. Tiffany Pack was hot behind the 3 point line adding 15. Amanda Ison put in 10 points. Freshmen Sarah Trill led on the boards with 12 rebounds. The Vikings were led in scoring by Ashley Deshler who put in 25 points. Cathy Kaye added 11 points.

The Cougars are now 1-3 and are at home again on Friday night at 7 p.m. as they face Southeastern University.
