Moody Ruins Clearwater's Hopes for 3rd Straight National Title

(11/10/11) The hopes for a 3rd straight national championship for Clearwater Christian College were dashed on Thursday night as Moody Bible Institute defeated the Cougars 2-1.

Clearwater again dug themselves an early deficit as Moody took a 2-0 lead into the half behind goals by Kujtim Rushiti. The Cougars battled back strong in the 2nd half as Walter Scharf scored off a deflection to bring the Cougars back within a goal at 2-1. Clearwater was able to create several great chances late in the match but were unable to push the match into overtime. John Woodhall had the best chance for the Cougars with only minutes left when he took the ball off a Moody defender and hit a blast headed for the top corner of the net that was tipped wide by the Moody keeper.

Coach Whitaker commented after the loss, Were certainly disappointed but Moody was the better team tonight. I was really proud of the way our guys continued to battle back tonight. Its been a great run for us over the past few years.

The Cougars will finish the season on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. in the 3rd place match against Ohio Christian University.
