The men's soccer and women's volleyball teams won the NCCAA II regional championship tournaments. The women's soccer team won second place in regional tournament. All three teams will play in the national tournaments to be held November 9-12.
Men’s Soccer Wins Third Straight Championship
Clearwater Christian College won the NCCAA II South Region Championship, defeating Point University 1-0 in front of a huge crowd of Cougar supporters at Glen Oaks Park. Dean-Paul Wallace scored the game winning goal for the Cougars to help them advance to the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida, on November 9-12.
The Cougars scored 19 minutes into the first half when Wallace scored on a rebound off the Point keeper after Drew Custer managed to get behind the Seahawk defense and crossed the ball into the box. The Cougars continued to create quality scoring opportunities, but couldn't capitalize to put the match out of reach. The Cougars held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Clearwater defense played well in earning the shutout, led by junior goalkeeper Anthony DeRosse and senior defenders Matt Tewes and Matt Wells.
The South Region Championship was the third straight for the Cougars and will allow them to advance to the NCCAA National Tournament where they will go for their third straight national championship. The Cougars will be the #5 seed and will face #4 Manhattan Christian College.

Women’s Soccer Earns Berth in Nationals
In the championship game for NCCAA II South Regionals, the Lady Cougars and the Point University Skyhawks played good, solid, fundamental defense from the starting whistle. Scoring chances were rare for both teams throughout the first half, and the game went to the half a scoreless tie. Point University was finally able to break the scoring drought when Nery Martinez slotted the ball just inside the back post in the 81st minute for the one goal lead. The Skyhawks were able to hold on for the last 9 minutes of the game to win the South Region championship.
Although placing second in the south region, the Lady Cougars will advance to the NCCAA National Tournament with the at-large bid. The Cougars will be the #4 seed and will face #5 Kentucky Christian College.
