Cougars Fall to Falcons

In a disappointing loss, the Lady Cougars dropped their second straight match against the Florida Lady Falcons. The Florida team outplayed the CCC team, especially on defense to secure a solid victory over Clearwater. While at times the CCC team played well, the lack of consistent play hurt the team's overall performance.

According to Coach Denny, "This was a tough loss. If we had been more consistent throughout the match, I think the final outcome could have been different. After losing the first set, I was pleased with how the team responded and came back to win the second set. The third set was critical, and after being up 23-21 we could not put the final points down and dropped a close one 24-26. The final set FC got a big lead and had us 22-16 before Emma Kile took to the serving line and helped us win six straight points. We had set point on more than one occasion but the solid defense of the Falcons prevented us from scoring two points in a row. We eventually took the lead but due to some defensive lapses, we could not hold on and eventually lost the set, 31-33."

Emma Kile led the team with 18 kills while Richelle and Amanda Bucklin added 11 and 9 kills respectively. Ponce and Ison had 19 and 18 digs for the match.

The Cougars return to action this weekend as they host their competitive Invitational Tournament against several strong NAIA programs.
