Cougars Drop Tough Match to Falcons
(10/4/11) Clearwater Christian College lost a heartbreaker to Florida College 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Cougars dominated most of the match but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. In the 60th minute the match turned when senior forward Drew Custer was given a red card by the official which put the Cougars a man down for the rest of the match. The Falcons were able to capitalize in the 79th minute when Joey Sanchez got behind the Cougar defense and beat keeper Anthony DeRosse for the winning score.
For the match, the Cougars had a sizable lead in shots as well as an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. After the match, Coach Whitaker said, "This was a frustrating loss for our team. It seems that we just can't catch a break. The boys really worked hard, played well, and created lots of scoring opportunites but in the end we have to find ways to score goals. The entire match changed on the red card decision by the official, but the reality is that we had our chances and didn't take advantage of them."
The Cougars have a 9 day break before they face Webber International University (NAIA) on October 13 at home at 6:30 p.m.
