Lady Cougars Continue Winning

The Lady Cougars captured their 16th win of the season against Ave Maria University on Tuesday night. CCC started off slow against the home team falling behind early in the first set but was able to fight back to bring the game close. Coming back from 7 points behind the Cougars tied at 23-23 but fell short, losing set one 24-26.

During set two the Cougars settled down to play consistent ball to take the set. During the next set the Cougars jumped out to an eight point lead behind the solid serving of Georganna Little and never looked back. The Gyrenes responded in set four testing the Cougar's resolve to put the match away. After Ave came back to tie the score at 24-24, they took the first lead of the set and had Clearwater at set point. The Cougars responded and scored three straight points taking the set and the match. According to Coach Denny, "although we started out a little sluggish and made a lot of unforced errors during set one, I really appreciated the way the team responded and pulled together to get this win. Ave Marie is a solid NAIA program and is well coached. To get this win on the road is a solid victory for us at this point of our season."

Emma Kile led the team with 15 kills, and Richelle Bucklin added 12 kills. The Cougars return to action Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Webber University.
