Winning Streak Ends for Lady Cougars
The Lady Cougars winning streak ended this afternoon at the Pasco Hernando Tournament in a close five set defeat against College of Central Florida. Both teams entered the match with solid records, the Cougars were 11-0 while the Patriots were 13-2.
Clearwater started off slow and dropped the first set before responding to take the second set. During set three the Cougars got stuck in one rotation which cost them 8 straight points and the set. CCC did come back to win set four 25-23 to set up a fifth game. Again, the Cougars got behind and although worked hard at narrowing the deficit fell short 12-15, losing their first match of the season. According to Coach Denny, "I was disappointed we did not come out stronger against such a solid team. When we finally did decide to play we were able to keep the match close. Although this was a disappointing loss, I do believe we are going to learn some valuable lessons that should help us get better."
The Cougars were led on the offensive side with Emma Kile having five kills per set and 31%. Amanda Bucklin added two kills per set at a 22% hitting efficiency.
