Cougars Drop Tough Match to Lions

(9/10/11) Clearwater Christian College lost 3-1 to Emmanuel College (NAIA) in soccer action on Saturday night in Carnesville, Georgia. The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the 14th minute on Seth Dempsey's 4th goal of the season off a nice combination from freshman Riley Tuininga.

Emmanuel would even the match up at the 26 minute mark when Tom Butler was able to get behind the Cougar defense to slot the ball past keeper Anthony DeRosse. The Cougar defense held strong until late in the 2nd half when Andres Mora found space at the top of the box to score the game winner. As Clearwater pushed forward to try and get the game tying goal, Butler dashed the Cougars hopes in the final minute to put the game out of reach at 3-1.

Coach Whitaker had this to say about the loss: "I was proud of the way our guys battled for 90 minutes. Emmanuel is a quality team, and we knew we had our work cut out for us. We're starting to get solid contributions from our young players, and tbe experience of playing in this sort of game will really help us as we look to the season ahead."

Clearwater drops to 2-3 on the season and will host region rival Toccoa Falls College on Friday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m.
